Summer is here, which means that you’re probably taking your motorcycle out often for warm-weather rides. However, after a few weeks of riding through dust, puddles, and mud, your bike may be looking a little rough. Fortunately, a quick wash can have your motorcycle looking like new! Below, we’ve provided some tips to help you get started.

Gather Tools and Prepare Your Bike

First, park your bike in an open area with good drainage, like a driveway. You don’t want to park it on grass, as the soap and debris can damage your lawn. You should also make sure that you have a source of clean water, a few buckets, a hard-bristle scrub brush, pieces of chamois cloth, sponges, and a bike cleaner. You can also get wax or polish that’s suitable for your bike’s finish.

Rinse and Scrub

Plug up your motorcycle’s exhaust with a rag and hose it down to get it wet. Fill a bucket with water and soap and use your sponges to wash your bike from top to bottom. You can employ the hard-bristle brush for more difficult areas such as nooks and crannies. Rinse your motorcycle thoroughly when you’re done scrubbing it.

Finishing Touches

Dry your bike with a chamois cloth or let it air-dry and then use a clean cloth to apply the wax or polish you’ve selected. You can even apply a separate tire shine to your wheels to make them sparkle. Unplug the exhaust and you’re done!
